Perry’s life outside of Friends, where he played the adored Chandler Bing, got entwined with the alluring Julia Roberts.

Perry ended their relationship with her after two months of dating, but it turned out that he had a reason for doing so.

When Roberts chose to have a scene in Friends, Perry was ecstatic.

When she was asked to make a cameo appearance on the hit comedy Friends in 1995, the talented Pretty Woman actress and 53-year-old Matthew Perry fell in love. Producers advised Perry to contact Ms. Roberts because she expressed interest in joining the show but only if she could take part in Chandler Bing’s plot.

Recalling those charming moments, Perry said, “I sent her three dozen red roses and the card read, ’The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers.’”

“Not only did Julia agree to do the show, but she also sent me a gift — bagels, lots and lots of bagels,” Perry said.

In his autobiography, Perry tells the tale of his romance with Julia Roberts. Roberts’ consent to take part in a Friends special led to a three-month relationship that involved daily faxes while Roberts was in France filming a movie. When the episode’s filming began, they started dating.

Perry spoke about impatiently anticipating Roberts’ faxes and even interrupting discussions with other ladies to see whether a fresh fax had arrived.

Reflecting on his time on the hit show Perry shares, “Being on Friends was one of those unicorn situations where the news just kept getting better and better. But off-screen, things weren’t going so well.” Perry admits that dating Julia Roberts had become overwhelming for him.
