Madonna had been scheduled to launch her highly anticipated Celebration Tour in Vancouver on July 15; however, it had to be postponed after she was taken to the hospital with a bacterial infection. The tour would have seen Madonna perform her greatest hits from 1983 to the present in 53 shows across North America and Europe.
Last Wednesday (June 28), Gary Oseary, the singer’s tour manager, announced the decision to halt the tour on Instagram. He wrote: “On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in ICU.”
He continued: “Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and rescheduled shows.”
According to the first reports, Madonna was discovered comatose on June 24 and sent to a hospital in New York City where she was intubated.
